McConkey family: Maybe (A)Andrew and Lorenna's family or (B) their daughter Sarah's. A: Andrew and Lorenna, seated. Standing left to right, Matilda (later Carson), George Edgar (my great-great-grandfather), Cicero, Leonard Alexander, John William and Adolphus. Missing is eldest daughter Sarah (Howell). B: A McConkey relative, J. R. Clarke, wrote "This photo was sent to me but identified as the family of Eber Howell & wife Sarah McConkey. When you add in his 2 sons by his first marriage, John Albert & Jeremiah, the rest fit with the known family of Eber & Sarah... If you make an estimate of photo as c. 1861 (year Eber Howell died) then the ages of the children showing seem to fit with his family."
This is said to be Emma Jane McConkey's father's mother, taken in the 1830s. That would be Lorana. She would have been in her early 30s. But photography was not commonplace then. The dress and backdrop look later, making me wonder if it's Marilla Dean McConkey, Emma Jane's mother, or Emma Jane herself. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.
Lorana, wife of Andrew McConkey. One of their children was George Edgar, father of Emma Jane (McConkey) Mabee Heffer. (Thanks, Kathy Cass)
