Jack and Austin Anger with draft horsesJack (seated) and Austin Anger and horses, May 1943 at Union farm. "Jack and Dad planting potatoes with fertilizer drill. Had a stove pipe to drop the potatoes down through." Murel (Mabee) Anger wrote on photo and sent to son George in WWII.
Murel Anger feeding chickensMurel (Mabee) Anger: "Some of my chickens at supper time" she wrote on the back. She sent it to son George in England. It was taken in June 1943 at their farm near Union.

McConkey family: Maybe (A)Andrew and Lorenna's family or (B) their daughter Sarah's.

A: Andrew and Lorenna, seated. Standing left to right, Matilda (later Carson), George Edgar (my great-great-grandfather), Cicero, Leonard Alexander, John William and Adolphus. Missing is eldest daughter Sarah (Howell).
B: A McConkey relative, J. R. Clarke, wrote "This photo was sent to me but identified as the family of Eber Howell & wife Sarah McConkey. When you add in his 2 sons by his first marriage, John Albert & Jeremiah,  the rest fit with the known family of Eber & Sarah... If you make an estimate of photo as c. 1861 (year Eber Howell died) then the ages of the children showing seem to fit with his family."
Great-Great-Great Grandmother McConkeyThis is said to be Emma Jane McConkey's father's mother, taken in the 1830s. That would be Lorana. She would have been in her early 30s. But photography was not commonplace then. The dress and backdrop look later, making me wonder if it's Marilla Dean McConkey, Emma Jane's mother, or Emma Jane herself. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.

  1. Hi Dorothy, Would David like to know about his Australian connection as I am sure we could be related way back as my gggrandfather was from U.S.A. jumped ship from the Wilkes Expedition in Sydney.

    1. Hi Carolyn, when I’ve googled the name Mabee I’ve seen Australian references. I thought maybe the connection, assuming there’s one, was back in Europe, with some going to North America and some to the Antipodes. If you like, send your gggrandfather’s name and info. Maybe we can find the connection. Thanks for writing, and hope you’re having a nice summer.

  2. Hi Dorothy
This is Maggie Purtill ( daughter of Don and Shirley Mabee ) I was looking at your pictures and in the tenth picture you have my Uncle Frank and Aunt Marion sitting beside my Grandmother Nancy ( nee Rice ) Mabee but it’s actually my Dad Don Mabee holding one of the twins and my mom Shirley Mabee holding me. 🙂 Just thought I would share that with you 🙂 This is such an awesome site 😀 Thank you so much for all your hard work!

  3. Thank-you so much for your incredible research into Pieter C Mabille”s (Now Mabee) family tree, he was my 9th or 1Oth great grandfather. I especially appreciated Entry 68 about Enid Mabee Vallee, was my beloved great grandmother. Her husband George Vallee was Reave of Bayham Township in the 1930’s and did die in 1959. She died in 1974 in her home in Straffordville and is buried in our community cemetery beside her husband in Christian burial with a Masonic service as well. My grandfather was only son was James Dewey Vallee, also partially mentioned in your research. He married Mary Elizabeth Wade of Perth County. He was the Clerk of Bayham Township (CEO) from the start of world war two in 1939 until 1970 and a leader in church and community. He was born in 1905 and died in his garden in Staffordville in 1993. She as born in 1914 and died in 2008. Both were buried in the Straffordville Cemetary. They had three children […] Patricia Marjory Vallee (1939- 2007) and my father […]

    1. Hi David, thanks for your kind words and for the information on your family. I added it to my database (and removed it here for those still living). If information on Ancestry is correct, we are also related through the Anger family. George Vallee’s parents were James Vallee (1848-1921) and Susan Anger (1856-1910). She was daughter of George Augustus Anger (b 1825 Ft Erie d 1906 S Cayuga) and Elizabeth Croft (b 1831 England d 1912 S Cayuga). Wow! I’ll update my online tree(s) as soon as I can.

  4. Dorothy, send an email and I will forward info and photos.
I have ‘tons’ of material and info for you.

  5. Hi Dorothy,
I came across your site while doing a search on Rice family. My connection is through Nancy Ann Rice who married George W. Mabee.
Nancy would be a sister of my grandmother Marion Lavera Rice (Ker).
I’m happy to add any info you have interest.

    1. Hi Dave, and thanks. I have Nancy Ann as d/o Henry Rice (1854 Norfolk Co to 1927 Simcoe) and Mercy/Nancy E. Dreyer (1858 Scotland to 1927 Norfolk Co). I do not have their other children so if you would like to add what you have, that would be great.
