Lymburner Reunion 1936

Lymburner Reunion 1936

A reader sent a photo of a Lymburner Family Reunion in 1936. Thanks so very much, Linda. In the detail above, you see the oldest person present. She is #104, Mrs. Dorwin Bartlett, or Sarah Elizabeth Lymburner, 1846-1938, daughter of Robert Maitland Lymburner and Elizabeth Melick. In the full photo, you see all 143 family members who attended. They encompass several family branches living in the Caistor area.

The photo itself is now in the West Lincoln Historical Society Archives in Smithville, Ontario. I don’t know who wrote down the names of the people in it. I added information on each of them as best I could. Some people I could not find out more about, and some are not named in the original. Any information would be appreciated.

Some of these people are in my Lymburner family tree. Others I “found” thanks to this photograph and they will be added to the tree when I can do so. (Technical problems still prevent updates.)

Here is the photograph in four section with names and additional information under each. (Round brackets ( ) indicate people and info already in my family tree; square brackets [ ] is what I found while researching this photo.) The full list in numerical order, matching the large scroll photograph, is at the end. For all the photos, tap or click to enlarge them.

Photographer: A. M. Cunningham & Son, Hamilton ON

“In 1886, Charles S. Cochran (1854-1933) opened a photographic studio in association with Alexander M. Cunningham (1863-1926). In 1902, Cochran left and the studio was renamed the A.M. Cunningham Studio. After his son Charles H. Cunningham joined the business the name changed to A.M. Cunningham & Son. When Alexander died, Charles continued the business, which was known in later years as the Cunningham Studio. In 1955, Charles retired and sold his interest in the firm. From 1967 to 1968 the business was known as the Reid Studio. In 1969, the photographic studio closed because the building was set to be demolished for a downtown urban renewal project.”

  1. Wonderful and epic photograph! As a historian and family genealogist, is so commendable that the names of most of these multigenerational
individuals are available. Mrs Bartlett (Sarah Elizabeth L.) is my great grandaunt as she is the sister of my great grandfather -William Clark L..
You have done an incredible clear and archival presentation of the identity of the individuals. Too bad my father – James Earle L. (b. 1926) wasn’t present or my grandfather – Lorne Clayton L. but I get to see my 1st cousin twice removed Leslie Roy L. and family.
Thank you for all you have done to sort the LYMBURNER family!!

    1. Hi Jim, yes, isn’t it a great photograph! Also wonderful that the list of names was kept with it. Glad you saw it, and thank you.
